ADAC
Eifel Rallye Festival – Entry list will be closed early
• Huge
rush to reserve entries guarantees a great field of participants
•
The first stars of the rally world
who will attend are confirmed
•
Programmes and the official book of
the Eifel Rally Festival 2011 – 2022 are now available for
order.
When the historic
rally world gathers again in Daun on the last weekend of July
(July 27th/29th, 2023), the fans can certainly look forward to
watching a first-class entry. Just two weeks after the opening of
the application list for this year's ADAC Eifel Rally Festival, it
was not just the maximum available one hundred and fifty starting
places that had been reached – there were more than two hundred
crews wanting to participate. "We will close the entry portal
on April 10th otherwise the waiting list will be too long,"
explained organisation manager Otmar Anschütz with one laughing
and one crying eye. "Of course, we are hugely happy about
this insane recognition of our work and our event, but it is a
shame for every single person we now have to cancel."
Reinhard Klein (Cologne) who, as the head of Slowly Sideways is
responsible for selecting the entry, added, "Due to this huge
rush, it is unfortunately the case that not everyone can be in the
Festival every year. But the impressive variety of cars presented
to us also has an advantage since it means that we can put
together a very attractive field of participants for the
fans."
The first stars
have been announced.
In addition to the
historic rally cars that are the real stars in the Vulkaneifel,
their former drivers are also attracted to this international
class reunion of the rally family. There are already firm
commitments at this very early point of the year. Harri Toivonen,
who failed to tackle any stages last year thanks to the technology
of his Lancia Delta S4, wants to be able to show himself to the
fans this time on all the special stages with a Škoda Fabia R5.
Audi Tradition will again bring two treasures from its museum to
the Eifel. One of them will be driven by Harald Demuth, so that
the two-time German Rally Champion will not have to switch to a
two-wheel drive machine.
He had promised that "If I don't have a vehicle, I'll come
with my bicycle, maybe I'll get an entry with that." The
Belgian Bruno Thiry, 2003 European Champion and long-time World
Championship competitor, will drive an original rally car from
Wolf-Dieter Ihle's collection. Nicky Grist, 1993 World Champion
co-driver alongside Juha Kankkunen, will be on the 'wrong' side
this time: He will once again be driving the original Toyota
Celica Turbo 4WD with which they were successful back in the
1990s. Finnish rally professor Rauno Aaltonen is also coming to
Daun, sitting at the wheel of a faithful replica of his former
Opel Kadett in its Safari trim. Fabrizia Pons, Michèle Mouton's
long-time co-driver and one of the most successful co-drivers
ever, is also drawn back to Daun. Last year, she had some problems
switching into 'Eifel Mode' at the beginning. "Until then, I
no experience of any events that were run on a non-competitive
basis and also had such a relaxed ambiance. But now that I
understand the system, I think it's wonderful."
Advance sales of
programme booklets and tickets have started.
In order to
optimise the dispatch and to expand the offer, the sale of the

Eifel Rally
Festival 2011-2022 – The definitive book.
The official book
about the first ten editions of the Eifel Rally Festival is not
just a simple chronicle. With the stars of the scene from the past
and present and with the most beautiful original cars and replicas
from rally history, it is, so to speak, a Who's Who of the sport.
Within its pages are the highlights from ten years of the Festival
with cars that are normally never seen outside museums, such as
the Group S Audi, the rebuilt Safari Stratos and exotics ranging
from the Jidé to the Clan Crusader. There is a unique
cross-section of rally history with the older classics from Mini
and Volvo PV544 to Group 4 legends like the Stratos and the Ascona
400, not forgetting the amazing Group B monsters, the stars of
Group A from Lancia to Subaru as well as the spectacular World
Rally Cars. The bilingual texts (German and English) and the many
photos in the 300-page work are completed by numerous tables and
lists of starters and cars from the ten years. The foreword is
written by long-time patron Walter Röhrl in
which he recalls his own impressions of the Festival. Here is the
